Share the Shelter is a one-of-a-kind fundraiser held at Gulf Place, on 30a. This daylong celebration of music and optimism features musical talent, merchandise vendors, and even a doggie play area. 100% of the profits from the event will go towards giving women, children and animals a second chance at life. When domestic violence strikes, it affects not only the family, but the family pets, as well. It is because of this that Shelter House and Alaqua Animal Refuge are joining forces.

On Saturday, September 29 from 12:00 pm—10:00 pm, Share the Shelter Music Fest, benefiting Shelter House and Alaqua Animal Refuge, will take place at Gulf Place on the corner of 30A and Highway 393.

Having seen the tragic results of animal abuse and domestic violence– from burned cats to dogs with broken limbs to starved horses – from black eyes to broken ribs we are compelled to take action. It is time to
do more than shelter animals and women from cruelty; we want to stop the abuse and the way we do that is by raising awareness about these issues in our community

About Share the Shelter: For the second year, Shelter House and Alaqua Animal Refuge are joining forces with several local and national musicians to raise awareness about the link between animal abuse and domestic violence.

Up to 75 percent of domestic violence victims report their batterers have threatened, harmed or killed their pets, and nearly 80 percent of violent incidents occurred in the presence of women and children. We want to stop the cycle of violence in our community and that includes violence aimed at our four legged family members.

Concertgoers should expect a full day of music, food and fun. Dogs are allowed at this year’s event, and VIP passes, as well as discounted tickets for children, are available for purchase.

About Alaqua Animal Refuge:
Alaqua Animal Refuge – an independent, nonprofit organization located on Florida’s Emerald Coast – advocates the general welfare and humane treatment of animals by providing shelter, prevention of pet overpopulation and adoption services. Located on 10 acres in Freeport, the refuge was formed by Walton County, Fla.-resident Laurie Hood in 2007 when she discovered that countless animals were being euthanized due to the lack of a no-kill shelter/adoption organization in the underlying areas. Since that time, Alaqua Animal Refuge has helped find homes for more than 6,000 animals. Currently, up to 100 animals are adopted per month from this unique rescue facility, which serves as a true refuge for more than 250 animals at any given time. For more information on Alaqua Animal Refuge, go to AARFlorida.com or call 850-880-6399.
